Terms & Conditions

Welcome to Readminded, a reading note application developed by Jiasstudio, a sole trader based in South Australia, Australia (ABN: 64 279 051 706). By downloading, installing, or using the Readminded mobile application (the “App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the App, you confirm that you are at least 13 years old and agree to these Terms. We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via an in-app prompt or other reasonable means. Your continued use of the App after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. If you are under 18, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian. We reserve the right to terminate accounts or access for users who do not meet eligibility requirements.

3. App Description and Use

Readminded is a reading note app that uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, powered by Google ML Kit, to help you create and manage reading notes. When you are signed in, your notes and reading data are synced to our secure servers so they are available across devices.

Permissions

To function, the App may request access to your device's camera (for OCR scanning and barcode scanning) and photo library (for importing images). You can manage these permissions in your device settings at any time.

Your Responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Use the App for lawful purposes only.
  • Provide accurate information when creating an account.
  • Keep your account credentials secure and not share them with others.
  • Not reverse-engineer, decompile, or misuse the App's code or functionality.

4. User Accounts

To use the App you must create an account. You may sign up using:

5. Subscriptions and Payments

Readminded offers the following subscription plans:

  • Pro Monthly
  • Pro Yearly

Subscriptions are purchased through and billed by the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). By subscribing you also agree to the applicable store's terms:

Auto-Renewal

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Your payment method on file with Apple or Google will be charged.

Cancellation

You may cancel at any time through your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period. No partial-period refunds are issued, subject to the applicable store's refund policy.

Access After Cancellation

Pro Plus access continues until the end of the paid period. After that, your account reverts to the free tier and Pro Plus features become unavailable.

6. User Content

Any notes, reading trackers, and collections you create in the App (“User Content”) remain your property. By using the App you grant Jiasstudio a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store and process your User Content solely to provide the App's functionality (including server-side sync). We do not claim ownership of your User Content and do not use it for advertising or sell it to third parties.

7. Data Storage and Sync

When you are signed in, your User Content (notes, reading trackers, collections, and reading progress) is synced to and stored on Jiasstudio's servers. This enables cross-device access and data restoration after reinstallation.

If you delete your account, your data will be permanently deleted from our servers. Locally cached data may remain on your device until you uninstall the App.

8. Third-Party Services

The App integrates the following third-party services. Where a service receives or processes your data, its own privacy policy and terms apply.

Authentication

In-App Purchases and Subscription Verification

Book Metadata

When you scan a barcode or search for a book, the ISBN or title is sent to one or more book catalogue services to retrieve metadata (title, author, page count, cover image). These services include Google Books, Open Library, the National Diet Library of Japan, Rakuten Books, and Kakao Books. No personal data is transmitted in these requests.

OCR Processing

Text recognition is performed on-device using Google ML Kit (Apache 2.0 Licence). No image or text data is sent to external servers during OCR processing.

Surveys

Optional in-app surveys are transmitted to Google Forms (see Section 9).

9. Surveys

We may collect non-personal data through optional onboarding or experience surveys to improve the App. Responses are transmitted to and stored on Google Forms, operated by Google LLC, under jia.software.studio@gmail.com. Google's servers may be located outside Australia (e.g., in the United States). By submitting a survey you consent to this transfer. You may request deletion of your survey responses by contacting us.

10. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design and code (excluding third-party libraries), is owned by Jiasstudio and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The App uses third-party open-source software including Google ML Kit (Apache 2.0 Licence). A copy of the Apache 2.0 Licence is available in the App's “Licences” section. You may not copy, modify, or distribute the App without our written permission, except as permitted by applicable open-source licences.

11. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for illegal activities.
  • Attempt to hack, scrape, or otherwise exploit the App or its servers.
  • Use the App to store or process unlawful content.
  • Share, transfer, or sell your account to another person.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided “as is.” We do not guarantee:

  • The accuracy of OCR results or book metadata retrieved from third-party services.
  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation.
  • Protection against data loss due to device failure, network issues, or events beyond our control.

To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Jiasstudio is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, including data loss, OCR errors, subscription billing issues managed by third-party stores, or failures of third-party services. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or AUD $50.

14. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or for any other reason, including discontinuation of the App. Upon termination:

  • Your right to use the App ends immediately.
  • Your User Content will be deleted from our servers within a reasonable time.
  • Any active subscription continues until the end of the current billing period (refunds subject to the applicable store's policy).

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of South Australia, Australia. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of South Australia, subject to mandatory consumer protections in your jurisdiction (including Australian Consumer Law and GDPR for EU users).

16. Changes to the App

We may update, modify, or discontinue the App at any time. Where reasonably practicable we will give advance notice of material changes. We are not liable for any resulting loss or inconvenience.
